Though the garden is small, Green Man is here in his many guises. At first there was only the store-bought Green Man on the back fence. Then, slowly, the garden began to reveal other Green Men here and there, now and then.
From the beginning, I have called the tall Liquid Amber tree at the far end of the garden "The Old Man".
In the spring and summer when he is flush with leaves, the Old Man shows his stern face. In the fall he burns crimson. Come winter, a thousand patterns emerge from his bare branches. To look him in the eye, click on his photo (to the right).
